Committees & Volunteer Opportunites
Family Selection Committee
Responsibilities:
Committee members serve on an ongoing basis working with applicant families in a short-term capacity. The task of this committee is to research and review as a group pre-screened applications to determine eligibility for Habitat partnership. This is a very important function for Habitat - this group basically performs the underwriting function to determine eligibility for Habitat’s zero-interest mortgage loan. Selecting applicants for partnership requires a serious commitment, including a commitment to confidentiality, from all committee members.
Meeting Time/Location:
The Family Selection Committee meets for lunch on the first Tuesday of every month at noon in the Habitat office located at 5005 S. I-35 Service Road.

Family Support Committee
Responsibilities:
Committee members provide informational support to applicant families while they complete their sweat equity requirements, and following the purchase of their home. This is an important function, requiring a longer term commitment to working with specific families, the goal of which is to help the home buyer make the transition from renting to home ownership. Committee members visit with assigned families periodically, usually by phone, for up to one year after becoming homeowners. “Team training” is available for all our partners. We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help families make a smooth transition at this important time in their lives. More education up front means a construction and purchase experience with no surprises, as well as a happier and more successful owner, and a better neighbor.
Meeting Time/Location:
The Family Support Committee meets for lunch on the fourth Tuesday of every month at noon in the Habitat office located at 5005 S. I-35 Service Road. New members are always welcome.

Photography and Newsletter Volunteer

Habitat is looking for individuals who would like to share their photography talents and/or writing skills. Volunteer photographers help document house dedications and other special events. Many of those photos are used in Central Oklahoma Habitat’s quarterly newsletter. Volunteers are also needed to contribute articles to the newsletter, which is distributed to some 15,000 volunteers and donors each quarter. We welcome fresh ideas and participation. Guest writers may cover special events for the newsletter, conduct interviews, or contribute relevant articles on approved topics. All newsletter content is subject to final editing by Habitat personnel.
