“Little House on the Prairie:  the Musical” hammering with Habitat in OKC!

“Little House on the Prairie,” a new musical based on the beloved Laura Ingalls Wilder series of classic American books is the uplifting story of an American family forging a new life amidst the mighty challenges, heartbreaks, joys and triumphs that face them in the newly-settled heartland.  Melissa Gilbert, who rose to fame as a child playing ‘Laura’ in the hugely successful NBC television series “Little House on the Prairie” during the 1970’s, now continues her legacy ‘on the prairie’ by taking on the role of Ma.

This celebration of the pioneering spirit and the core values on which this country this country was founded will travel throughout the U.S. on a 26 city tour which culminates in spring 2010, playing at the OKC Civic Center Music Hall November 17-22. For ticket information please visit www.littlehousethemusical.com.  While in OKC, Ms. Gilbert and the cast and crew of “Little House” will take time out to swing hammers with Central Oklahoma Habitat to help an Oklahoma family come “home!”

Hope Crossing is an Award-Winning, News-Making Community!

This past month, Hope Crossing was recognized as a “Sustainable Community of the Year” by Developer Magazine. The award was presented at the magazine’s Multifamily Executive Conference awards luncheon at the Bellagio in Las Vegas.  This story generated significant community awareness and press to match!  News of the event, and Hope Crossing’s participation in energy efficiency, can be found all over the web and in local newspapers.

See News of the Event at:

Information on Hope Crossing partner ClimateMaster:
Alliance to Save Energy is a non-profit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders.  Their website currently provides an article and case study on Hope Crossing, with particular interest on Alliance Associate ClimateMaster, the world’s largest designer and manufacturer of water-source and geothermal heat pumps (and they’re based in OKC!).

OK House of Representatives mentions COHFH and quotes a Hope Crossing homeowner:
“As one of the state’s largest low-energy builders, Habitat for Humanity has recognized the benefit of geothermal systems, and installed the technology in all . . . houses it built . . . in its north Oklahoma City Hope Crossing neighborhood. By using geothermal technology in their homes, Habitat was not only able to give low-income Oklahomans a chance to own a house, but also the opportunity to cut their utility bills and save them operating dollars in the long term as well.”
