Pet Photos with Santa at Penn Square Sunday evening

COHFH’s Habitat for Canines Project will be hosting Pet Photos with Santa, Sunday Dec 6 from 6.30pm – 8pm. Santa will be at Penn Square Mall to welcome all your furry, fluffy, or feathered friends to have their pictures made with Santa himself!

Pets should go through the Men’s Wearhouse entrance, on the west side of the mall, near Macy’s. Santa will be in the courtyard in front of the Macy’s store entrance. All pets must be leashed or contained at all times when not visiting with Santa.

A variety of photo packages are available for purchase, or you can snap some of your own pictures as well for free.

Summer, the official “dog” of the OKC Summer Classic will be there to greet all the guests. Register and Win a pet products basket, provided by Furry Friends, an all natural pet product cart located in the mall.

The Habitat for Canines Project is a partnership between the Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity and the OKC Summer Classic Dog Shows. The project builds and dedicates dog houses for the new Habitat for Humanity homeowners. Over 80 dog houses have been presented to the new homeowners since the project was formed over a year ago.

The Habitat for Canines Project will also host an Extreme Dog House Design Competition in March. Funds raised from this exciting contest will go to continued funding of the project. The goal for the competition is to raise enough funds to fully fund a dog friendly Habitat for Humanity home. Anyone who needs further information about the contest may write to Wendy Musgrove at (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). Entry forms will be available at the Pet Photos event.

Central OK Habitat’s Hope Crossing neighborhood receives national recognition!

The U.S. Green Building Council presented Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity with a 2009 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes Outstanding Affordable Project Award for Hope Crossing neighborhood during the Greenbuild 2009 Residential Summit Nov. 12 - 13 in Phoenix. Ariz. Former Vice President Al Gore served as keynote speaker at the event.

The award recognized Habitat’s commitment to LEED certification and outstanding leadership in sustainable construction, as exemplified by the Hope Crossing neighborhood. There are 97 homes completed in Hope Crossing, with a total of 217 planned.

“We are so proud of the national recognition that Hope Crossing is receiving,” said Ann Felton, chairman and CEO of Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity. “We understand the importance of sustainable building, and we hope to set an example for others to always be mindful of the impact of construction on the environment.”

All homes in Hope Crossing are heated and cooled with geothermal technology provided by Oklahoma City-based ClimateMaster, and OG&E contributes toward energy efficiency improvements and LEED-Silver certification on each home through its Positive Energy® Home program.  Builders Insulation and Guaranteed Watt Savers Services are also discounting material costs and rating fees, respectively, on Central Oklahoma Habitat homes.

LEED certification was developed by the U.S. Green Building Council and provides building owners and designers an outline for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
