Your Support Made a Difference in 2009!
Thank you to all of our volunteers, staff, and supporters! Through your support we were able to bring 46 families home in 2009 while also weatherizing and making badly needed repairs on 50 homes of limited income owners in the Oklahoma City area. Here are some highlights:
• US Green Building Council’s 2009 Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Homes Outstanding Affordable Project Award for energy efficiency in Hope Crossing
• Hope Crossing was also named “Sustainable Community of the Year” by Developers Magazine.
• “Little House on the Prairie: The Musical” came to Oklahoma City and make a significant contribution, while the cast and crew volunteered for one of our builds
• Many thanks to ALL of the generous individuals, corporations, churches, foundations, civic and school groups who funded and helped build and revitalize homes for all these neighbors!
Your Support in 2010 will Continue to Change Lives!
Economic Impact Study
In 2009, former state auditor Tom Daxon, helped Central Oklahoma Habitat implement a survey of homeowners and in his analysis found the following:
• That although COHFH is a charitable organization, it pays for itself in real value added to the community
• That beyond the obvious value of housing, many participants report that they can do other things they could not have done previously, like educate themselves and their children, thereby adding to the stock of skills in our community
• That the addition of a new Habitat home in a neighborhood appears to encourage neighbors to improve their own property
• That a number of homeowners report improved health, and almost every family reported improved behavior, grades, attitudes, and/or outlooks in their children
This exercise has proven how deep an impact each of these homes has on its family and our surrounding community. I cannot thank you enough for your continued support in the new year! We cannot do it without you.
Mission: Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry working in partnership with God and the community to provide simple, decent, affordable housing and hope for responsible, hard-working, limited income families living in substandard conditions.
