Building HOME and HOPE . . . .

Chaparral Energy volunteers built their fourth Habitat house in five years this summer, and we’re starting another one on September 11.  This second home build will progress over the next 10 weeks.

This year’s first project had it own special moments. For me it is always when the first wall goes up and when the keys are presented to the owners. I think some of the true spirit of Habitat is in the comments of some of our first time volunteers.

“This was my first Habitat Build and it was a great experience. It was really nice to be able to spend some time with my Dad and fellow employees in a fun and rewarding atmosphere. I really enjoyed seeing how each piece of the house was put together and seeing how quickly things were accomplished by having so many people working together. The dedication was also amazing because of the impact that I got to witness first hand to the new homeowners receiving their key to their brand new house; the home couldn’t have gone to a better, more deeply appreciative couple.”

“It is exciting to see a house being built from concrete slab up!  It is also encouraging to know the homeowners really appreciate your time and effort.  Getting to know co-workers and other volunteers at the build is a definite plus.  I would recommend to others to get involved, only if it is for one day.”

“My experience in building the Habitat for Humanity House was one of pure exhilaration.  Each day that I volunteered I learned something new about energy efficiency & the construction of a new home.  I also felt a tremendous amount of pride in knowing that my hands helped to build a home in which a family will continue their life in a safe & comfortable environment.  When I think of the memories and the joy that will be harvested in that home, I am truly honored to have had the opportunity to support the Habitat for Humanity.”

“This year was my first time volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into, but I’m not one to quit. Expert hands are not necessary, although I thought differently in the beginning. All it takes is a little time, patience and the willingness to help. It was a memorable experience that I truly enjoyed; not just with the experience that I was gaining but with the friendships that were forming. I had such a great time that up until the very end I kept trying to get people to volunteer their time.”

One of the benefits to the corporation is the improved communication between employees. New relationships are formed and old relationships are deepened. This improves the communication in the office as well.
It is always a privilege and honor to work with Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity as together we strive to provide affordable housing and build a community one house at a time.
