Christian Church and Disciples of Christ volunteers frame new home on September 26
Unity Build
Churches uniting under one banner to build new home for family
Unity is what this project is all about - Christian Churches (Disciples of Christ), Churches of Christ, and Independent Christian Church congregations coming together to serve their fellow man in the name of Jesus Christ by building a home for a deserving family in need.
In 2007, when Disciples of Christ volunteers undertaking their regular bi-annual Habitat build project were inadvertently scheduled together with Church of Christ volunteers, they all had a great time and Disciples of Christ volunteer Tom Russell thought, “We need to do this again!”
This year, in celebration of the 200th Anniversary of Thomas Campbell’s writing of his Declaration and Address establishing the Stone Campbell Movement of which Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Churches of Christ, and Independent Christian Church congregations all belong, the three religious streams are coming together to honor Campbell’s calling to church unity.
Some 12 - 15 churches are involved, providing both funding as well as more than 250 volunteers all pitching in in some way, from swinging hammers to providing funding and food to praying for volunteers’ safety. It’s a great undertaking with a positive message of unity to pass along to all. Look at what we can accomplish together that we could never do apart!
Thank you to all our Disciples of Christ, Church of Christ, and Christian Church friends for extending your hands and hearts in friendship, faith, and fellowship!
