El
Reno
As Margaret Mead said, “Never
doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever
has.” Citizens in El Reno are bringing about positive
changes in that community, one house at a time, making the
future brighter for Oklahoma families and the community
through partnership with Central Oklahoma Habitat.
Central Oklahoma Habitat's
first El Reno homes, at 500 W. Owens and 607 S. Miles, were built in October
and November of
2004 during two-week blitz builds. We extend grateful thanks to the donors of these
first properties - the City of El Reno and Russell Murray
Hospice, Inc. - as well as to Bank of Union in El Reno for
very generously funding construction
of our first home at 500 W. Owens. Thanks also to King
Electric for donating the complete electrical installation
on both homes, and to all the area volunteers and businesses
that helped to make these homes happen.
The involvement of these individuals and businesses is what
drives Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, and makes
simple, decent, affordable homes happen in communities all
over the greater Oklahoma City metro area...homes that are
good for families and good for the community.
Our
third home at 815 S. Bickford was constructed in
February 2005, in another two-week blitz format.
The property was donated by a private individual, and King
Electric again provided power to the house! Churches,
businesses, civic groups, and individuals
once again provided monetary
contributions and volunteer manpower, and had a lot of fun.
Check back later for more
information on our 2006 El Reno build, dates still to be
determined.
