MEDIA RELEASE: Breaking the Cycle: Young Family Celebrates New ‘Permanent’ Habitat Home

OKLAHOMA CITY — After moving nearly every year as a child, Kevin S., 24, wanted something better for his future bride and longtime partner, Jennifer A., 23, and their 4-year-old son, Lafayette – a permanent home.
The young couple celebrated the dedication of their new, energy-efficient, affordable Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home with Habitat staff, family and friends on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at their new home in Cornerstone Creek.
With a big smile, Kevin thanked the attendees at the home dedication for sharing his family’s joy.
“It’s an amazing opportunity even to be here at my age and say I own a home,” Kevin said.
Kevin and Jennifer met and fell in love while attending Douglass High School. They later lived with Jennifer’s mother before renting a house from her. Although they were grateful to have a place to live, Kevin said that renting could not provide the permanence he wanted for his family.
“I never want my son to feel that anxiety — ‘Where are we moving next year?’” he said. “I want him to be able to say, ‘This is my neighborhood. This is my home. This is ours.’”
Kevin, a hardworking production supervisor who leads about 30 employees at Nortek Air Solutions, said he would work “four jobs” before allowing his son to experience the housing insecurity he remembers from childhood.
“I’m absolutely ecstatic about our new Habitat home,” he said. “I’ve always wanted my son to have the proper structure in place for his future.”

After being accepted into COHFH’s New Home Construction program, the couple completed their first-time homebuyer education classes and fulfilled the required 100 sweat-equity volunteer hours through hands-on construction, with family members helping. Best of all, little Lafayette recently began pre-K near their new home. Kevin said his “smart, creative and genuinely funny” son already loves learning and he wants others to know that affordable homeownership is possible through Habitat.
“I want to make sure more young people like us can see this and be motivated to get out there and go above and beyond to secure their homes as well,” he said.
