New House Marks A New Beginning & Malarkey Roofing Product’s 500th Habitat Roof with Donated Shingles

A powerful partnership between Malarkey Roofing Products and Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity reached a significant milestone Thursday, July 31, 2025, with the dedication of the 500th Habitat home roofed with Malarkey shingles.

New homeowner Julie Q. thanked the Christian-housing ministry and home-build sponsor, Malarkey Roofing, for ensuring she is well-covered in the future with her newly bought home at Cornerstone Creek in Oklahoma City.

Julie attended Mustang High School. She said she only became sober over seven years ago after a stint in prison. She credits God and Hope Is Alive Ministries for helping her turn her life around, and she began working for the alcohol and drug addiction recovery organization five years ago.

“The day my life started to turn around was the day I was sentenced to prison,” Julie said. “It was a day of shock, but also the day I said, ‘Here you go, Lord, wherever I’m going, I’m just going to trust in you.’ ”

Julie’s faith and hard work have paid off. With her steady employment and good credit, she was able to apply and be accepted for an affordable mortgage through Habitat. Future Habitat homeowners must fulfill various commitments to the nonprofit, including performing 100 hours of sweat equity, building their own or others’ homes. The New Home Construction program allows Habitat homebuyers to purchase a new home at cost and without a down payment.

“I chose my cabinets, the floors—some carpet, some hardwood,” Julie said. “I’ve got new appliances and a corner lot. It’s more than I’ve ever had before, but I’m ready for the challenge.”

Malarkey Vice President of Manufacturing Jay Kreft attended the home dedication and said the event was a blessing. “It’s a privilege to protect someone’s biggest investment—their home,” Kreft said. “Our Class 4 shingle is high-performing and can even lower insurance costs. It gives peace of mind during bad weather.”
