Grateful for Early Lessons About Homeownership, Edmond Educator to Celebrate her New Habitat Home Dedication at 2 p.m. TODAY in Cornerstone Creek
OKLAHOMA CITY — It may seem like Christmas came early for Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s newest homeowner when Edmond Middle School Teacher Isabella M. celebrates her new home dedication at 2 p.m. TODAY (Dec. 19, 2024) at Cornerstone Creek in Oklahoma City.
When Isabella, 24, applied with Habitat’s New Home Construction program, she stated that she grew up in the Oklahoma City and Edmond, Oklahoma area and graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma before becoming a science teacher/volleyball coach at Edmond’s Sequoyah Middle School.
Faced with the high cost of renting or leasing an apartment, Isabella was determined to find a way to become a homeowner despite her modest teaching salary. A family friend told her about Habitat’s high-quality homes, and she applied.
“Growing up here, I’ve always known that I didn’t want to stray too far from my family, and the desire to establish a solid foundation grew,” Isabella stated. “I was taught the importance of investments, and buying a house is one of the best investments you can make. Becoming a homeowner was my next dream after graduating.”
She said Habitat’s New Home Construction program has allowed her to invest in herself and help others. “Habitat made my dream come true,” she stated.
Isabella’s house will be Habitat’s 1,114th home built by the Christian housing ministry since 1990. Cornerstone Creek is located southwest of N.W. 150th and N. Morgan Road in Oklahoma City. Several homeowners have already moved into the thriving community, with about 30 homes now under construction.
When completed, Cornerstone Creek will offer 450 affordable homes, three parks with walking trails, workout stations, and a gazebo. The excellent school district in Piedmont, Oklahoma, will also benefit residents’ children.
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity, one of Habitat for Humanity International’s top 10 affiliates, offers a New Home Construction program to help qualified future homeowners buy safe, secure, and energy-efficient new homes for cost and without a down payment. Applicants must have a credit score of more than 600, the ability to make regular payments and meet the 2024 HUD income guidelines by family size.
