How Does All This Work?
Through volunteer labor and donations of money and materials, Central Oklahoma Habitat builds attractive, energy-efficient houses with the help of the homeowner (partner) families.
Our Habitat houses are sold to partner families at no profit and financed with affordable loans. Our Habitat homes are not a giveaway program.
In addition to a down payment and the monthly mortgage payments, homeowners invest a hundred hours of their own labor – sweat equity – into building their Habitat house and the houses of others.

Homes are selected for Critical Home Repair partnership based on greatest need, availability of resources and on the ability of volunteers to help complete the project.
Critical Home Repair projects typically cost approximately $3,000.
Your gift will mean a world of difference for a limited-income family living in unsafe, unhealthy and/or unaffordable conditions. Please consider donating as an individual, with your church, corporate group or civic organization? All monies received from donations to the Critical Home Repair program go directly to the cost of materials and any contract labor necessary to repair and revitalize eligible homes.
Habitat affiliates around the country are diverting thousands of tons of building materials each year from landfills to their stores, to be recycled and reused.
By recycling and selling materials, we not only help the environment, but also generate funds to build more Habitat homes in our community. And this enables more Oklahoma families to move out of substandard housing.
Proceeds from sales of the items at ReStore help fund new Habitat houses and allow us to provide repairs and renovations through our Critical Home Repair program.
Yes, yes and yes! All are welcome. Think of our ReStores as another stop on your home improvement shopping list. Each location has set retail hours and receives a continual supply or new or nearly new items ranging from home appliances, home decor and accent pieces, furniture, rugs and carpets, building supplies and more!
We’re regularly shopped by contractors, remodelers, handymen and handywomen, homeowners who are remodeling and generally curious shoppers.

Yes! Our Central Oklahoma Habitat ReStores gladly accept the donation of building materials. You may choose to contact either of our locations directly to coordinate a drop-off, or you can schedule a pickup time and our ReStore Team will come to you — whichever option is most convenient for you.
Central Oklahoma Habitat ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price.
Our ReStore proceeds are used to build homes, repair homes, fund our outreach efforts and to generally help improve our local Oklahoma City community.
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is governed by the 21 members of Central Oklahoma Habitat’s Board of Directors. They are highly motivated and committed to helping to provide affordable housing for limited-income families in central Oklahoma.
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International.
We rely on tax-deductible gifts from individuals, corporations and other groups to fund our house-building mission. All donations of any amount are deeply appreciated and help us build more decent, affordable houses in central Oklahoma.
The monthly mortgage payments made by our homeowners also go into our building fund along with the proceeds from our two ReStores that sell new and used building supplies.
Families and individuals living in central Oklahoma who are in need of decent shelter may submit a Habitat home application.
The affiliate’s family selection committee and the Central Oklahoma Habitat’s Board of Directors choose homeowners based on their level of need, willingness to become partners in the program and ability to repay the loan.
Habitat homeowners are chosen without regard to race, religion or ethnicity, in keeping with U.S. fair housing laws, and with Habitat’s abiding belief that God’s love extends to everyone.
Applicant approval criteria includes:
- The applicant’s level of need.
- Their willingness to partner with Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity.
- Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan.
As part of their willingness to partner, Central Oklahoma Habitat’s homebuyers invest 100 hours of their own labor, called sweat equity, working alongside volunteers and other Habitat homeowners.
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, Christian housing ministry. We believe that every person should have a decent, safe and affordable place to live. We build and repair houses in central Oklahoma using volunteer labor, donations, our mortgage base, and proceeds from sales at our ReStores. Through our Habitat Home program, our partner families purchase these houses at cost.
