It may seem like everything we do now and days is in front of a screen. Now it feels rare to get a moment without a screen in front of you or your children’s faces.
However, playing video games or scrolling through social media are not the only ways to keep the family entertained.
Sometimes we may forget the world around us can offer so many entertaining and interactive activities we can do to get our noses out of a screen. A lot of these simple activities can be all found in your home, no need to go out and get a bunch of new toys or such.
DIY Fun
One of the best things about doing DIY is that more often than not, all the supplies are already in your home! This could mean paper, scissors, tape, paints, or really anything that something great can come from. A fun DIY could be making superhero capes from old fabrics or clothes, creating paper lanterns, or even making at-home slime.
Another side of DIY could be in the form of science experiments. Simple reactions with water and oil could be a great way to make an at-home lava lamp. It is amazing to see what normal things in our homes could create such wonders.
Cooking and Baking
Cooking and baking could be a great way to enjoy time with the kids, while also teaching them important life skills without them even realizing it. Baking can show your little ones how measurements work; while cooking may show them the safe way to handle utensils and use kitchen equipment.
While teaching them the skills of the kitchen, you could in turn help yourself out when dinner time rolls around and you need help cutting up the veggies. This may also spark something inside them and create a whole new hobby and possible future endeavors for a child as well.
Cooking may also be a great way to show them how to give back to the community. If the children really enjoy the act of cooking for others, teaching them about soup kitchens or other forms of volunteerism may be a great way to get them involved with the town around them and teach some amazing life lessons.
An Obstacle Course
Setting up something to help the kids let out their energy and play around could be a great way to motivate them away from the screens. An obstacle course could be a great way to do this. Whether it is inside or outside, setting up pillows to jump over, or even your own mini Olympics is a fun way to get your kids engaged.
Setting up a frisbee throwing contest, or a three-legged race will make amazing memories while at the same time, get your kids to sleep that night!
There are a lot of options out there when it comes to engaging with your kids outside of screens. It can be as simple as painting a self-portrait or building a house of cards. No matter what, it will end with lots of giggles and hugs, and maybe even a full course meal.
