Due to rising home prices and the affordable housing shortage for limited-income individuals and families, our New Home Construction and Critical Home Repair programs are in great need. Recent national, state and local reports on housing affordability cite a local housing shortage of more than 81,000 affordable homes among Oklahoma City residents, while two in five Oklahomans cannot secure safe and stable housing for their families by working a full-time job. Meanwhile, a typical homeowner spends approximately 12 years in their home and the longer tenure means more money and investment in the homeowner’s community.

While Habitat has long been a resource for providing affordable housing for limited-income families in the area, due to rising home prices, our Habitat leaders see acknowledge that our programs are in great need. A recent Statewide Affordable Housing Market Study commissioned by the Oklahoma Department of Commerce and the Oklahoma Housing Finance Agency projected that 44,000 affordable homes were needed by 2020 with the demand only slated to increase in the years to come.
