Habitat’s First Home Dedication Begins at 2 p.m. TODAY, SEPT. 12th, at Cornerstone Creek
CUTLINE: Diamond and her daughter, Demi, age 14 months, plan to move into their new Habitat home soon.
Members of the media are invited to attend.
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said Cornerstone Creek’s first home dedication celebration at 2 p.m. TODAY, Sept.12th, in Oklahoma City marks a significant milestone in Habitat’s 35-year-plus history of providing affordable housing opportunities in the greater Oklahoma City area.
“We couldn’t be prouder of our new homeowner, Diamond W., a dedicated state employee and single mother, who bought and will move into her new home with her daughter, Demi, in the days ahead,” Felton Gilliand said. “Diamond is our first-ever Cornerstone Creek homeowner, and we will celebrate her with our home-build sponsor, Maxwell Supply Company, and community members.”
COHFH’s Home dedication will begin at 2 p.m. TODAY, Sept. 12th, at the “Maxwell” house at 14621 Bedrock Lane in Cornerstone Creek, located on the southwest corner of N.W. 150th Street and N. Morgan Road in Oklahoma City. Guests will include Maxwell Supply Company President Charlie Thomason, Ward 1 Oklahoma City Councilman Bradley Carter and Oklahoma House Rep. Denise Crosswhite Hader (District 41). Members of the media are invited to attend.
Cornerstone Creek’s first homeowner, Diamond W., age 29, has served as an Oklahoma Department of Human Services Child Protective Services employee for over four years. She fulfilled all the requirements of Habitat’s New Home Construction program, and through Habitat she was able to buy her house for cost and without a down payment.
When Diamond W. applied for the program, she wrote that as a single mother with only one income, finding a decent place to live for her ”sweet, sassy and loving” little girl, age 14 months, had been a challenge because of the high cost of living and rental properties.
“Habitat will use this opportunity to build a loving home, shelter and safety for me and my child,” Diamond W. stated. “It is with great intentions for Diamond and Demi to build, grow and share in love in memories in a place we can call our own.”
When complete in six to eight years, Habitat’s Cornerstone Creek will feature 450 affordable homes, three parks with trails and workout stations and a gazebo. Schoolchildren will also be able to attend nearby Piedmont, Oklahoma’s excellent school.
