Daniela S. and her father, Carlos S., are the proud new homeowners of a Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity home in Cornerstone Creek.
The S. family including Daniela’s mother and Carlos’s wife, Rosa G., will celebrate during a home dedication with Habitat staff, local clergy, and community members at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Sept. 11, 2025, at their new house in Cornerstone Creek in far northwest Oklahoma City.
Daniela and Carlos partnered with Habitat to purchase the new energy-efficient house. Carlos works as a sales lot porter for Metro Ford, and Daniela is an operations manager for a local CVS store. Originally from El Salvador, the family wrote in their application for COHFH’s New Home Construction program that they learned about Habitat through a family member.
“This home is more than just a roof over our heads—it’s a miracle for our family,” Daniela said. “We came to this country only a few years ago, and it hasn’t always been easy. But God placed Habitat for Humanity in our path, and now we have a permanent place to call home. We are so grateful to everyone who made this possible.”
The family previously lived in a small apartment, but now they’ll have space to grow, thrive, and build new memories together.
COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said the S. family shows how families can pool resources to achieve homeownership.
“By pooling their resources and incomes, this family’s ingenuity and partnership led to homeownership,” Felton Gilliland said. “They’re a great example of a family that partnered with us, put in the hard work and purchased an affordable, high-quality home where they can build a new future.”
She said the S. family’s new house is Habitat’s 1,137th home built since 1990. Felton Gilliland also noted that Cornerstone Creek is on track to complete 91 homes in Phase I, with fundraising now underway for Phase II.
“We’re delighted by the progress we’re making at Cornerstone Creek,” she said. “Nevertheless, we still need the community’s help in raising the $3.7 million needed to pay for the infrastructure for Phase II’s 210 homes. Please remember, every dollar helps.”
