OKLAHOMA CITY – Gabriel G., an assembler at the Balon Corporation, a local valve manufacturer for the oil and gas industry, has plenty to be excited about today! He and his mother, Margarita G., will celebrate his Habitat home dedication at 2 p.m. TODAY (Feb. 27, 2025) at his new house, located at 14508 Bedrock Lane in Cornerstone Creek, located in northwest Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Gabriel shared in his application sent to Central Oklahoma Habitat’s New Home Construction program that he grew up in Durango, Mexico. He is the seventh of 10 children, and while he had a happy childhood, he eventually felt the need to seek more significant opportunities elsewhere.

“I left my home in search of a better future and to fulfill the dreams that everyone has in life,” he stated.

After moving to Oklahoma City, Gabriel initially worked in factories before pursuing cosmetology, a field he said he enjoyed. However, he felt something was lacking.

“Something was missing – the ability to be with my family – especially my Mom,” he said. “Fortunately, I had the opportunity to reunite with my family. I’ve lived there (with family) for six years while working at Balon, which helps me financially.”

Determined to further his goals, Gabriel has also been studying for his GED while working toward homeownership. By qualifying, partnering and buying his new home with Habitat, Gabriel put in 100 hours of sweat equity volunteering toward building his own and others’ homes. He also didn’t have to pay closing costs or make a down payment.

“That’s why I’m here – to achieve one more dream, a bigger dream – my new house,” Gabriel said. “I know I’m in the best and most trusted hands with Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity.”

Gabriel’s new home is the 1,120th built by Central Oklahoma Habitat since 1990. Potential homeowners interested in seeing if they qualify for a Habitat home can take a one-minute quiz at okchabitat.com and view our recent video on several homeowners at Cornerstone Creek.
