Local Man’s ‘Truck Full of Memories’ Becomes Gift to Help Build Affordable Habitat Housing in Central Oklahoma

Truck Donor Elton S.
Elton S. of Oklahoma City recently donated his longtime 2004 Ford F-150 through Habitat for Humanity’s Cars For Homes program after nearly 20 years of family memories, work commutes and youth sports seasons.
After nearly two decades and about 194,000 miles, Elton S.’ much-loved 2004 Ford F-150 Lariat SuperCrew 4WD truck faithfully carried hunting gear, cattle feed and countless family memories across the state. Now the well-traveled pickup’s sale will help build affordable housing in Central Oklahoma.
Elton recently donated his truck through Habitat for Humanity’s Cars for Homes program, with proceeds benefiting Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity. The northwest Oklahoma City resident recently wrote Habitat to share how donating his pickup could help build affordable homes for families in Central Oklahoma.
“This wasn’t just any truck; it was my pride and joy,” Elton stated. “It had everything I wanted in a truck at the time and carried me 45 minutes each way to work each day, and hauled cattle feed and horse supplies on the weekend.”
He wrote that the truck also became part of his children’s upbringing, from driving lessons in school parking lots to long weekends at youth sports tournaments.
“But the memories I’ll treasure most are the softball and basketball years,” Elton said. “The truck bed became the team’s unofficial hangout spot after practice and during tournaments out of town. Filled with chairs, coolers and gear – I can still hear the laughter of a dozen kids sharing sports drinks and orange slices, planning their weekend strategies from their perch in the back.”
He shared that donating his truck to Habitat’s Cars for Homes program was a big decision, “but it just feels right.”
“Working with Habitat for Humanity over the years taught me that even small donations can change lives,” Elton stated. “I hope Habitat for Humanity can use this to make homeownership happen for more families that work hard to build their own homes. This truck helped build my family’s story – now it can help another family build theirs.”
Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said the Cars for Homes program helps Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity continue building new, energy-efficient and affordable homes for local families.
“We are so grateful to Elton and his family for their generous donation,” Felton Gilliland said. “Habitat’s Cars for Homes program accepts all kinds of vehicles in any condition, including boats, RVs, vans, motorcycles and even farm equipment. Donation proceeds are automatically directed to the Habitat affiliate that serves the address where the donor lives.”
Because Habitat is a nonprofit organization, vehicle donations may be tax-deductible.
