Local Soul/RnB Singer/Songwriter Rod P., who performs with Shortt Dogg, the Canterbury Choir and more, has a new reason to belt out a happy song! The singer and property management services employee became a new homeowner and celebrated with Habitat during the dedication of his new home on Friday afternoon (Dec. 27, 2024) in far northwest Oklahoma City.

Rod, his parents, James and Marilyn P. of Del City, Oklahoma, Jeff Stokes representing the Edmond Board of REALTORS, several representatives from the Daughters of the King and Habitat staff enjoyed the event led by Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland. Local media, KOCO-TV Channel 5 and KOKH Fox 25, also covered the celebration.

“This is our 1,115th house built by Habitat since 1990,” Felton Gilliland said. “Rod’s worked hard for this day by putting in 100 hours of sweat-equity volunteer work with Habitat. It is a great day when you know a new homeowner will move into their new home before the end of the year.”

When Rod applied to partner with Central Oklahoma Habitat through the nonprofit’s New Home Construction program, he wrote in his application that becoming a homeowner has been a lifelong goal.

“I love to cook and put smiles on the faces of the people I love and that love me in return,” Roderick stated. “I look forward to hosting holidays, various family functions and seeing my little nephew and dog run around the backyard.”

He expressed gratitude to Habitat for the help and guidance he received and for “making my dream come true.” When asked what he liked best about his new home, Rod said, “The fact that it is mine.”
