A Promise Kept: Adoptive Mother of SEVEN Celebrates Habitat House at 2 p.m. TODAY, Friday, April 24, in Spencer, Okla.
SPENCER, Okla. — For Angela J., home has never just been a place — it’s been a promise. A promise to the children she’s welcomed, cares for and loves as her own.
Angela will fulfill that promise during the dedication of her new Habitat home at 2 p.m. TODAY, Friday, April 24, in Spencer. The event marks a life-changing milestone for a mother whose journey has been defined by compassion, resilience and unwavering commitment to her family. Angela shared in her New Home Construction program application that she began fostering children at just 21. Over the years, she’s opened her heart and home to more than 60 children, and today she is the proud mother of seven adopted children — each one reflects her belief that every child deserves stability, love and a place to belong.
But she stated that creating that stability hasn’t been easy. Having enough space has been a challenge due to her large and growing family.
“Our family’s need for a Habitat home comes from wanting a larger, more suitable space where everyone has room to grow, learn, and thrive,” Angela said.
Having a permanent Habitat home means more than shelter to Angela. It means security and giving her children a place where they can feel safe, supported and proud — a place where memories can take root and futures can take shape.
Angela stated that something else important defines her family: strength.
“Despite challenges, we always find reasons to smile, help others and stay positive,” she said.
COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said Angela’s story reflects the life-changing impact of stable homeownership.
“Angela has dedicated her life to caring for children and creating a loving, supportive family,” Felton Gilliland said. “Her new, energy-efficient and affordable home will provide the space, stability and opportunity her family deserves — and serve as a foundation for generations to come.”
