EDMOND, Okla. — Erich Font, Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s Critical Home Repair (CHR) project manager, recently received an offer he couldn’t refuse: OKC Roofers offered to provide a new roof at no cost to a limited-income homeowner in need. Based in Oklahoma City, OKC Roofers is a Native American- and family-owned roofing contractor serving Oklahoma City, Edmond and surrounding communities. The roofing company asked Habitat to identify an eligible homeowner who needed a new roof. Font said the request was a natural fit for the CHR program, which provides essential repairs and weatherization services to qualified, limited-income homeowners.
“Our team identified Billie J. Fish, an Edmond homeowner who applied and qualified for our program,” Font said. “Ms. Fish wrote in her application that she was in dire need of a new roof, so we put OKC Roofers in contact with her, and they’re replacing her roof for free.”
He said Fish turned to Habitat for help after storm and weather damage left shingles curling and falling from her roof. She worried that continued deterioration would cause further damage to her home.
OKC Roofers’ crew members will begin replacing the roof at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow, Sept. 29, at Fish’s home in Edmond.
“Deciding to partner with the company was a no-brainer,” Font said. “We simply connected them with Ms. Fish, and they’ve generously done the rest.”
Font said Habitat’s partnership with a skilled community partner like OKC Roofers demonstrates that quality local businesses can donate their time, materials and expertise to help limited-income homeowners make essential repairs and remain safely in their homes.
“OKC Roofers’ generous gift to Ms. Fish is an outstanding example of how Habitat partners with local businesses that step up to help us meet the needs of limited-income homeowners,” he said. “We are very grateful to OKC Roofers for helping a homeowner in need, and we welcome other local businesses to contact us if they would like to donate their services.”
Members of the media are invited to visit the active roofing project beginning at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29. Font and representatives from OKC Roofers will be available for interviews about the partnership and roof replacement. Contact COHFH Comm. Director Kevan Goff-Parker at 405-514-3972 for the street address in Edmond.
