OKLAHOMA CITY —More than 20 volunteers joined future Habitat homeowners Elizabeth and JaVoni R. on Wednesday, Sept. 30, to help raise the walls of the first home in Section II of Cornerstone Creek.

Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) is nearing completion of the 91 planned homes in Section I. Infrastructure is now in place for Section II, which will include 211 new, energy-efficient and affordable homes. That infrastructure was supported in part by $2 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding administered by the Oklahoma Water Resources Board and a $750,000 grant from the Samuel Roberts Noble Foundation.

COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland discovered the 160-acre property that would become Cornerstone Creek and led the effort to secure funding to purchase and develop it. Plans for the completed neighborhood include 450 new, affordable homes, three parks and a gazebo. Children living in Cornerstone Creek attend nearby Piedmont schools.

Felton Gilliland said the frame day marks the visible beginning of Cornerstone Creek’s next chapter, turning years of planning, fundraising and infrastructure development into new opportunities for affordable homeownership.

“We are grateful to our generous donors, hardworking volunteers and community partners whose contributions are making Cornerstone Creek possible,” she said. “Because of their support, we’re moving closer to building 211 more affordable homes for qualified Central Oklahoma individuals and families. Affordable homeownership helps families and communities thrive while creating stability that can benefit future generations.”
