Two Families to Celebrate During Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s Back-to-Back Events in Cornerstone Creek
OKLAHOMA CITY – Two local families will turn their perseverance into freshly cut house keys as they join Habitat (COHFH) for back-to-back home dedication celebrations this week in Cornerstone Creek in northwest Oklahoma City.
The first dedication celebrates Chandra B.’s purchase of Habitat’s Women Build 2026 home. Chandra is a single mother of two and a medical assistant at INTEGRIS Health. The dedication begins at 2 p.m. today, Sept. 23, 2026, at the family’s new house in Cornerstone Creek. Volunteers who helped build the home have been invited to attend.
Both events will offer interviews with the homeowners and Habitat representatives, along with photo and video opportunities as the families celebrate receiving their house keys.
Habitat’s Women Build is an annual initiative that brings women together to help construct a new, energy-efficient, affordable home while gaining practical construction experience, developing new skills and supporting a future Habitat homeowner and family.
The second dedication celebrates Angel B. and Veronica M., who are purchasing a Habitat home for their family. The married couple has two daughters living with them and an adult son attending college in Mexico. The dedication begins at 2 p.m. tomorrow, Sept. 24, 2026, at their new home in Cornerstone Creek.
Veronica works as a certified nursing assistant for Oklahoma City Public Schools, and Angel works as an equipment technician for Dolese Bros. Co.
In their New Home Construction applications, both families described the difficulty of finding an affordable home in today’s economy. Chandra wrote that she has been renting a three-bedroom apartment, where rising housing expenses and concerns about the property made lasting stability difficult. She has long prayed and worked for the opportunity to purchase a home her children can truly call their own.
“I want a place my children can call theirs and something I can one day pass down to my children and family,” Chandra wrote. “I want to be an encouragement to let others know that all things are possible and it will get better, no matter the high or low.”
Angel and Veronica’s family moved from Colorado to Oklahoma about four years ago, hoping to build a more stable future. Angel wrote that rising rental costs made it increasingly difficult for the family to achieve long-term stability.
“Having our own home would change our lives in ways that words cannot fully capture,” Angel stated. “It would give our children a safe place to grow, learn and dream.”
