OKLAHOMA CITY — Ronald “Ron” N. Jr. knows a lot about second chances. As director of Second Chance Sober Living, he and his fiancée, Patricia L., have helped others rebuild their lives through faith and recovery. Now, thanks to Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH), the couple and their four children are getting a second chance of their own — the opportunity to build a better future as new Habitat homeowners.
COHFH staff, EOG Resources Oklahoma City volunteers and community members joined some of Ron’s family Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at the dedication of their new home in Cornerstone Creek. Ron’s father, Ron N. Sr., also offered a heartfelt blessing during the event.
As director of Second Chance Sober Living, Ron leads a spiritually based 12-step nonprofit that operates four drug-free homes for people in recovery. Both he and Patricia dedicate their days to helping residents maintain sobriety and stability. When applying to Habitat’s New Home Construction program, Ron said homeownership would be “a great blessing” for their family
“We were tired of renting and decided to invest in our family’s future by buying our home through Habitat,” Ron said. “We also needed another bedroom — renting a four-bedroom home is simply out of reach.”
To complete his required 100 hours of sweat equity, Ron and his large family worked alongside volunteers from EOG Resources, the home’s corporate sponsor. The EOG team contributed labor on seven consecutive Fridays during the build, beginning June 7, 2025.
“The people from EOG Resources were so nice and helpful,” Ron said. “We truly appreciate their support.”
COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said Ron’s home marks the organization’s 1,141st house built since 1990. She praised EOG Resources for its continued partnership and commitment to affordable homeownership.
“EOG Resources is an ideal corporate partner,” Felton Gilliland said. “Their investment helps hardworking families achieve the goal of owning a new, energy-efficient and affordable home.”
Felton Gilliland added that additional donor support is needed to fund infrastructure for Phase II of Cornerstone Creek, which will allow Habitat to build 210 more affordable homes. “Every little bit helps,” she said.
