OKLAHOMA CITY – Chase P., 25, knows a lot about climbing mountains. It is one of his favorite hobbies, and he’s hiked dozens in the U.S. Yet, several years ago, the young adventurer found himself knocked to the ground by substance abuse before Hope is Alive (HIA) Ministries helped him find sobriety.

Today, Chase is a HIA senior spiritual care manager for HIA’s Mentoring Homes Program. He will celebrate his new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home dedication with Habitat staff, local clergy and community members at 2 p.m. TODAY, April 10, 2025, at Cornerstone Creek in Oklahoma City.

In his application for homeownership through Habitat’s New Home Construction program, Chase stated that his substance abuse problem started when he was just 11, which led to substance abuse. After a serious car accident during his senior year at Guthrie High School, Chase was given opiates, which led to another addiction and eventually legal trouble.

In 2019, Chase sought help and attended rehab until he found Hope Is Alive Ministries. He graduated from its 12- to 18-month recovery program and stated, “The last five years have consisted of rebuilding a life that was knocked off track by substance abuse problems.”

Chase began working at HIA Ministries in 2021 and has, during the past several years, helped open two men’s recovery centers in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

“By the grace of God, mentorship and an incredible ministry, HIA Ministries, today I have hope in a future, a family and a career helping people in the community who struggle with drug and alcohol abuse,” Chase stated. “I am so extremely blessed to say that homeownership through Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity will serve as a launching pad for that future.”

HIA Ministries’ recovery homes promote “Radical Life Change” for people struggling with addiction through a strong, structured and fun environment designed to ensure long-term sobriety. The ministry takes a holistic approach to transforming the lives of people who are impacted by addiction, and their work includes mentoring homes in six states, a Healing Center for personalized recovery support, and compassionate support for families by finding hope.

Habitat Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said HIA Ministries is one of the nonprofit’s most active volunteer groups because HIA often brings volunteers to help build homes for limited- to moderate-income individuals and families.

“I’m happy to say that Chase and other HIA Ministries’ volunteers and employees have partnered with Habitat and helped to build their own and others’ homes,” Felton Gilliland said. “We’re blessed that some HIA employees want to become homeowners in our new affordable housing development, Cornerstone Creek, and we welcome them with open arms.”
