After fostering over 60 children, a Spencer mother of seven creates space to welcome more children and hopes to eventually open a home daycare.

SPENCER, Okla. — As Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland welcomed Angela J. and her seven children into the Habitat family Friday, April 24, 4-year-old Kden had a simple but heartfelt response:

“I love you,” he said.

For Angela, that moment captured what her new, energy-efficient and affordable home truly represents — more space, more stability and more love for the family she has built.

“It actually helped out my family from where we’re at,” Angela said. “We were in a smaller house, so having a bigger house means I get more kids in the house. I’m trying to open a home daycare, so that’ll actually help, too.”

A mother whose journey reflects deep compassion and resilience, Angela began fostering children at just 21. Over the years, she has opened her heart and home to more than 60 children through fostering and is now the proud mother of seven adopted children. But with her growing family, space has been a challenge.

“Yes, I do plan on adopting more kids,” she said. “This house will help because there’s more rooms, more space available.”

COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland led the presentation at new Habitat homeowner and adoptive mother of seven, Angela J., during her home dedication on Friday, April 24, at her new house in Spencer, Okla.

Having a permanent home means more than shelter for Angela. It means security and a place where her children can feel safe and supported— a place where memories can take root, and futures can take shape. She said she strives to remain positive; a mindset reflected in her New Home Construction program application.

“Despite challenges, we always find reasons to smile, help others and stay positive,” she said.

Felton Gilliland said the new five-bedroom house Angela purchased through Habitat will help the adoptive mother continue building her loving, supportive family.
“Angela’s new home will provide the space, stability and opportunity her family deserves and serves as a foundation for generations to come,” she said.
