Habitat Homeownership Helps Fulfill Mom’s Legacy for Daughter
When Adrine W. brought her three-year-old daughter from the Republic of Cameroon to the United States in 2017, the single mother said there were some “difficult times.” Determined to build a legacy for her little girl, Adrine trusted God and got to work, eventually earning a degree from Oklahoma State University. Today, Adrine is a thankful U.S. citizen working as an SSM Health radiology technologist. Her daughter, Emmanuelle Mathea, is now a thriving fifth grader attending a local school. Adrine celebrated the dedication of her new Habitat home on Nov. 7, 2024, with the Habitat staff and community members at Cornerstone Creek in Oklahoma City.

During the event, Adrine said her newly purchased home is another part of the legacy she wants to leave for her daughter.

“It is a great opportunity for me today,” Adrine said. “I want to thank America for this opportunity and for being a homeowner. With inflation today, getting a house is difficult, and I’m grateful.”
In her application to participate in Habitat’s New Home Construction program, Adrine wrote that she wanted to buy a new Habitat house so Emmanuelle could feel “at home and secure” as their American dream is being shaped in “this amazing country.”
“I want to leave her a legacy, and this house is a big part of it,” she said. “I’m grateful to be part of Habitat for Humanity.”

Alan wrote in the application submitted to Habitat’s New Home Construction program that he and Thaysarye chose to apply with Habitat because they wanted to live in a safe neighborhood.
“As we choose our first home and where we (will) live, it’s very important that our kids live in a safe neighborhood as they grow older,” Alan stated.
