Several Oklahoma City Police Department (OKCPD) representatives who helped build a Habitat home as part of the faith-based initiative Faith & Blue will attend a Habitat for Humanity new home dedication at 2 p.m. TODAY (March 7, 2025) at at Cornerstone Creek in Oklahoma City. (Cornerstone Creek is located at the southeast corner of N.W. 150th and N. Morgan Road).

The future homeowner, Iris S., who fulfilled some of her sweat-equity hours volunteering alongside the Oklahoma City Police volunteers during the home build of her future Habitat house, described the police as “a blessing” during an interview with local media in October 2024.
“This is so exciting!” Iris said. “It is the first step for me to buy a home. It is a grand achievement in my life (and) a dream come true.”

Iris, 29, works as a team leader at a local Walmart in Yukon, Oklahoma. She stated in the application she sent Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity to participate in the New Construction Program that she will live in her new Habitat home with her daughter, Miracle Delilah, age 7, and her disabled sister, Guadalupe S., age 43. Guadalupe has struggled with kidney failure and had two kidney transplants.

“My mother moved to Oklahoma for a fresh start and has always wanted the American dream for all her kids,” Iris stated. “With Habitat’s help, I can make that dream a reality. Miracle is the most excited of us, and she will finally get to enjoy her room and have a backyard where she can play with her dog named November (her birthday month).”

OKCPD Capt. Michelle Henderson, who has led the local police department’s participation in the National Faith & Blue Weekend for several years, said officers and staff will be happy TODAY to see the progress at Cornerstone Creek, Habitat’s newest and largest affordable housing development.

“We joined Iris and her family during her frame day,” Henderson said. “More than 45 OKCPD volunteers participated. Faith & Blue Weekend is designed as a faith-based solutions initiative where law enforcement joins local clergy to help communities nationwide by promoting faith and fellowship, resolution and reconciliation. Part of our core values at the OKCPD is compassion, and we like to get out into our communities and get involved in helping others in compassionate and positive ways.

“We enjoy participating in a Habitat frame day and can’t wait to see the completed house!”
