Edmond Educator Grateful for Early Lessons About Homeownership

Christmas arrived early for Middle School Teacher Isabella M. on Dec. 19, 2024, as she celebrated the dedication of her new home in Cornerstone Creek.

In her Habitat application, Isabella shared that she grew up in Oklahoma City and Edmond. She graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma before becoming a science teacher and volleyball coach at Edmond’s Sequoyah Middle School. Struggling with high rental costs, she sought homeownership despite her modest salary.

A family friend introduced her to Habitat, inspiring her to apply. “I never wanted to stray too far from family, and the desire to establish a solid foundation grew,” Isabella said. “I was taught the importance of investments, and buying a house is one of the best investments you can make. Becoming a homeowner was my next dream after graduating.”

She also valued her lessons learned while fulfilling Habitat’s sweat-equity hours. “When you figure it out and get that ‘aha’ moment that I can accomplish this, especially when people are backing you and making the process fun,” she said.
