Habitat’s Volunteer Program ‘Touched My Heart,’ Jeffer P. Says

Jeffer P., an IT project coordinator at Hobby Lobby, choked up as he expressed his gratitude during his Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home dedication at Cornerstone Creek on Oct. 3, 2024.

“Thank you to the Habitat for Humanity family that made this dream come true and allowed me to be part of this program,” Jeffer said.

He also thanked his daughter, Juliette, who was 12 at the time, and his parents, who attended the celebration.

Originally from Colombia, Jeffer moved to the United States in 2016 to seek better opportunities for his family. He enrolled in college and earned an associate degree in cybersecurity. At the time of his dedication, he was working toward his bachelor’s degree and said he hoped to become an IT project manager.

While living in an apartment, Jeffer applied in early 2024 to purchase a Habitat home because he wanted a more stable and secure place to raise his daughter.

“My daughter is the most important person in my life,” he said.

At the time, the hardworking father divided his free time between studying for his IT classes and enjoying bike rides and other outdoor activities with Juliette.

“The volunteer program touched my heart,” Jeffer said during a video interview. “Coming to the U.S. has been challenging but also a blessing for us. I’m very thankful for the opportunities provided by Habitat and its staff.

“It is also amazing how new homeowners volunteer to help build their own and others’ homes.”
