Habitat’s Affordable Housing Helps Mother and Teen Find New Home

New Central Oklahoma Habitat Homeowner Andrea J. and her daughter Avery are now settled in their new home at Cornerstone Creek. But before moving into Habitat’s newest and largest affordable housing development, Andrea said they had moved often due to rising rental prices. “We moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to my older daughter and mother,” Andrea stated. “Once I got settled into my job, we found an apartment. Since then, we’ve moved about once a year because of high rental prices.”

Looking to find an affordable home, Andrea struggled to save money while raising her 14-year-old daughter. “We love the Oklahoma City area, and I’ve always wanted to buy a house, but being a single mom made it tough to save for a down payment.”

After hearing about the Cornerstone Creek neighborhood, she applied. Andrea now enjoys working from home for a call center, and she says she’s happy about the new neighborhood and the opportunity to host family and friends during the holidays. “I’m looking forward to meeting our neighbors and making new friends through this experience.”
