As an organization, Heartland encourages employees to participate in our Worldwide Day of Service. This is a day dedicated to taking a step back from our desks, disconnecting from our devices and dedicating our time and effort in service to our community.

Habitat for Humanity was a great way for our group to see and feel the impact of volunteering firsthand. We had the opportunity to work on a few different homes, all at different stages of completion. Our team helped prepare a home for its dedication to a deserving family. During the dedication ceremony, we were able to experience the family’s pride and elation of finally realizing their dream of homeownership after years of hard work.

We also had the opportunity to work with a woman named Camille on her own home. We learned that Camille had been trying to get into the program for quite some time and would be moving into her home just before Thanksgiving. She was so grateful for our help and though her own move-in date was only weeks away, she continued to work on other homes long after completing her required hours. There was so much joy and generosity at every home in the neighborhood. It was apparent that everyone was glad to be there, serving the community, lending a helping hand and teaching our team members a few tricks of the trade along the way. Volunteering with Habitat for Humanity was a very rewarding experience for our entire team. We look forward to doing it again soon!
