Homeowner #1075 – David S., Erandi B. and three of their five children celebrated their new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home dedication on March 16, 2023, in Blanchard, Oklahoma. David S. said when he and Erandi B. looked at home prices in the greater Oklahoma City area, they were disappointed with the high cost of houses. Unable to pay above-market prices for a new home, they applied for COHFH’s New Home Construction program.

“I planned this for a while and when we got accepted, we were blown away and everything worked out,” David S. said.

David S. said his family of seven (now eight) had been living in a 750-square-foot, two-bedroom rental property prior to moving into their COHFH home. Due to the size of their growing family, the young couple made sure their children slept in the bedrooms while they slept in the house’s utility closet.

“Three of the kids shared one bedroom and the twins shared one,” he said. “Our new house is double the size, for sure, and it has all the rooms we need. It is a beautiful home, has a lot of meaning to it and I’m excited our kids will grow up in an actual forever home.”
