Single Mother’s Faith and Hard Work Lead to Habitat Homeownership

After years of moving from place to place, Diana O. celebrated becoming a Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) homeowner during a home dedication on June 13, 2024.

Diana raised her son, Carlos R., as a single mother while working at Hobby Lobby and part-time as a cosmetologist. Although she had long hoped to own a safe, stable home, she wrote in her Habitat application that homeownership had remained beyond her reach.

“I worked hard to pay off my bills and improve my credit score to get a home of my own,” Diana wrote. “This is something I’ve strived to accomplish. When God has a plan for you, no obstacles can stand in your way!”

Diana said Central Oklahoma Habitat’s staff supported her throughout the homebuying process. Her time volunteering with Habitat also gave her practical knowledge and greater confidence in caring for her home.

“It [volunteering] brought me the necessary knowledge so that I can fix my home on my own, and I am so grateful to COHFH’s staff,” she said. “I thank God, my son, Carlos R., and all those who have helped me in the process.”

For Diana, purchasing her Habitat home represented the stability she had worked so hard to establish for her family.

“Never give up and never lose faith,” she said. “My heart is grateful, and I finally have the stability I have always wanted.”
