‘Country-Loving Grandmother’ Happy to Have Room for Family

Amanda H., described by her daughters as a “country-loving Christian” mother and grandmother, celebrated purchasing her new home during a Dec. 5, 2024, dedication at Cornerstone Creek.

Amanda’s joy was evident when she received the keys to her new, energy-efficient and affordable home from Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland. Her smile grew even brighter when Diamond W., Cornerstone Creek’s first homeowner, warmly embraced her.

Purchasing a home was a significant accomplishment for Amanda, a travel coordinator for the Oklahoma Department of Health, but it wasn’t her only major milestone that year. She also earned an associate degree.

“I’m the first in my family,” Amanda said, “and I graduated with honors.”

Amanda said she would recommend Habitat homes because of the comfort and sense of community they provide. Her new house also gave her plenty of room for visiting family members.

“Owning my own home also helps me to provide a loving place for my daughters and granddaughter to stay for extended periods while in Oklahoma,” Amanda said. “And I can spend more time outside, walking around the neighborhood or gardening.”
