Mother of Three Buys New Habitat Home for her ‘Amazing Children’

Antwanette O., a staffing coordinator at Timbers Skilled Nursing & Therapy, celebrated purchasing her new home with her family during a Dec. 6, 2024, dedication at Cornerstone Creek.

The single mother’s children — Stephen, 10; A’Mariana, 5; and Love, 3 — had grown frustrated with the small home where the family lived in Spencer, Oklahoma.

“I have outgrown the house where I live now, and I’m ready to become a homeowner,” Antwanette wrote in her application to Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity’s (COHFH) New Home Construction program. “I have three amazing children who mean the world to me, and I’m dedicated to giving them better opportunities than I had growing up.”

When Antwanette accepted the keys to her new, energy-efficient and affordable home from COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland, she wiped away tears. The crowd offered words of encouragement and soon had her laughing.

“I’m going to add construction to my resume!” Antwanette said.

She later thanked the friends and family members who helped her complete the program’s required sweat-equity volunteer hours.
