A Family Catches the American Dream by Buying a Habitat Home
Pierre L. left his homeland of the Republic of Cameroon in Central Africa more than six years ago and came to America, chasing the American dream. The soft-spoken and devoted Catholic settled in Oklahoma City after finding work in law enforcement for Oklahoma County.
But Pierre’s life journey wasn’t over. He worked hard, saved money, and reunited with his wife, Annette, in 2021. After joining her husband, Annette eventually found work as a nursing assistant at a local nursing home. Meanwhile, the couple’s son, Yvan, now 13, began attending school in Oklahoma City. The family wanted to buy a house, but found it challenging because few affordable homes were available on the market. The family heard from a friend about Habitat’s New Home Construction program and decided to apply.
When applying for the program, Pierre’s son Yvan stated that his family is “very respectful” and attends St. Eugene Catholic Church in Oklahoma City. On Jan. 16, 2025, the family celebrated their home dedication at Cornerstone Creek.
