After Rising Rents and Frequent Moves, Family Puts Down Roots in Cornerstone Creek

Rising rents forced Andrea J. and her daughter, Avery, to move about once a year before they bought their new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home at Cornerstone Creek in 2025.

“We moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to my older daughter and mother,” Andrea wrote in her application to COHFH’s New Home Construction program. “Once I got settled into my job, we found an apartment. Since then, we’ve moved about once a year because of high rental prices.”

Andrea struggled to save for a home while raising Avery, then 14.

“We love the Oklahoma City area, and I’ve always wanted to buy a house, but being a single mom made it tough to save for a down payment,” Andrea wrote.

After learning about Cornerstone Creek, COHFH’s affordable housing development in far northwest Oklahoma City, Andrea applied to the program.

Andrea, who worked from home for a call center, looked forward to living in her new neighborhood and having room to host family and friends during the holidays.

“I’m looking forward to meeting our neighbors and making new friends through this experience,” Andrea said.

Andrea and Avery moved into their new, energy-efficient and affordable home in late February 2025, giving them a stable place to put down roots.
