First Home Caps a Season of Milestones for Brett M.

Brett M. had several reasons to celebrate in 2025: a new position at Hope Is Alive Ministries, an engagement and the purchase of his first home.

On Aug. 28, 2025, the senior healing strategist celebrated the dedication of his new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity home at Cornerstone Creek.

When Brett applied to Habitat’s New Home Construction program, he prayed that he would qualify to purchase a house. He wrote that past struggles with alcohol had brought disappointment, but he had worked diligently to improve his finances and prepare for homeownership.

“It’s not easy to qualify for a home,” Brett stated in his application. “I’ve worked hard to rebuild my credit and save money. Getting approved through Habitat would be a blessing—and I’m willing to volunteer for the rest of my life.”

A graduate of Hope Is Alive Ministries’ recovery program, Brett has been clean and sober for six years. Today, his work allows him to encourage others as they move forward in their own recovery.

“If you’d told me 10 years ago that I would be sitting here buying a house, I would have told you that you were crazy,” Brett said. “What God has done in my life, and what Habitat has allowed me to do by giving people like me a chance, is phenomenal.”
