For Marla B., a New Home Supports Family, School and Work

Marla B. was raising three children, then ages 11 to 14, in a crowded rental while working to create greater financial stability for her family.

On Sept. 17, 2025, Marla celebrated the dedication of her new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity home with Habitat staff, local clergy and community members at Cornerstone Creek.

In her application to Habitat’s New Home Construction program, Marla wrote that purchasing an affordable home would “significantly improve our financial well-being” and allow her to save for her family’s future.

“I have faced numerous hardships, but one experience that truly shaped me was my children,” Marla stated. “I was determined to create a better life for us. I have worked tirelessly to provide, and this experience instilled in me a profound sense of resilience and an unwavering belief in the power of hard work.”

After thanking Habitat and the guests who attended her home dedication, Marla said her children would attend Piedmont Public Schools. She also plans to work from her new home, making it a place that supports both her family and her professional responsibilities.
