Family Advocate Brings Stability Home Through Habitat

For more than three years, Marisa H. has helped families build stronger futures as a Family Engagement Supervisor at Sunbeam Family Services. Her work has now come full circle as she creates greater stability for her own family through Habitat homeownership.

Marisa and her daughter, Kylar, celebrated the dedication of their new Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home Nov. 6, 2025, at Cornerstone Creek.

Before becoming a homeowner, Marisa said renting left her family vulnerable to rising costs and decisions beyond her control. A landlord could raise the rent or sell the property, making it difficult for a single parent and child to feel permanently settled.

“Owning a home offers long-term stability and the peace of mind that comes with knowing we have a place to call our own,” Marisa said. “Rather than putting money into rent, I’m investing in a future for myself and my daughter. Our home gives us a foundation to grow, to dream bigger and feel secure, something every child and parent deserves.”

Marisa said Kylar, who has competed in the USATF Junior Olympics for three consecutive years and earned superior ratings at state piano contests, inspires her every day.

“This is my chance to show her what hard work and perseverance can accomplish,” Marisa said.

Their new Habitat home gives Marisa and Kylar a secure place to settle, build lasting friendships and plan their future together.
