New Habitat Homeowner Shaylon M. 

After Years of Hard Work, Shaylon Brings Her Family Home

While raising four children and working as a sanitation lead at Ben E. Keith, Shaylon M. remained focused on giving her family a safe, permanent place of its own.

That goal became reality on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, 2025, when Shaylon became a first-generation homeowner through Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH).

“I have worked hard all my life and look forward to owning my very own home,” Shaylon said. “My kids and I deserve a home we can call our own — a place where we feel safe and able to grow.”

Shaylon has worked for Ben E. Keith since 2016. She is raising Kiere T., 17; Kylee W., then 13; Haven B., 9; and Harmony B., 8.

Like other participants in COHFH’s New Home Construction program, Shaylon completed 100 hours of sweat-equity volunteer work by helping build her home and other Habitat homes. Her children joined her for the dedication of their family’s new, energy-efficient and affordable house in The Village.

Shaylon shared the celebration with new neighbor Donna M. during a dual home dedication attended by Habitat supporters, local clergy and community leaders. The homeowners received handmade quilts from members of Our Lord’s Lutheran Church, ReStore gift certificates and OnCue gift cards. Pastor Steve Evans blessed both homes.

Shaylon’s house is one of three Habitat homes built on land donated by Our Lord’s Lutheran Church. Johnson & Associates LLC contributed project and engineering services, and the firm’s owners and employees donated more than $43,000 toward a detention pond required for the development.

The partnership transformed previously unused church property into new homeownership opportunities—and gave Shaylon and her children the permanence she had worked to achieve.

“For me, it’s a forever home for me and my family,” Shaylon told Fox 25.
