Cornerstone Creek a ‘Great Fit’ to Help Cure Registered Nurse’s Housing Woes

After years of frustration with renting, high housing costs, and frequent moves, Isaac K., a registered nurse at a local heart hospital, knew he needed a new prescription to cure his housing woes. He found his remedy by buying an affordable home through Habitat’s New Home Construction program.

“My need for a Habitat home is that I have been a tenant for several years now, moving from place to place due to rising rent prices,” Isaac wrote in his Habitat application. “Where I currently rent has a lot of issues I have had to deal with. I would also like to live in a place where I feel safe, and Cornerstone Creek feels like a great fit.”

As part of his journey to affordable homeownership, Isaac completed 100 sweat equity hours and experienced several aspects of Habitat’s work. He began at a Central Oklahoma Habitat ReStore, where he learned about the low-priced new items and donated merchandise available to the community. Isaac celebrated the dedication of his new, energy-efficient, affordable Habitat home alongside his partner, Bri, on Feb. 25, 2026, in Cornerstone Creek.

“I thought the store was amazing,” Isaac said.

Isaac also helped build homes in Cornerstone Creek, including houses near his own future home.

“I did a lot of my work here in Cornerstone Creek,” he said. “I worked on a lot of houses surrounding us and on the street behind us.”

He also participated in Habitat’s Critical Home Repair program, where he helped repair a homeowner’s windows.

“That was a lot of fun,” Isaac said. “I really enjoyed that.”

The work strengthened Isaac’s connection to Habitat’s mission.

“I’ve come to learn that I really enjoy critical home repair and new home builds at Cornerstone Creek,” he wrote in his application. “I enjoy spending my time there, working with my hands and learning new skills that I can put to use in my everyday life.”

“What it meant for me was being able to afford a house and have financial security—security in so many ways,” Isaac said. “It’s a great organization, and I really appreciate it.”
