‘More Room, More Love’: Adoptive Mother Builds Brighter Future in New Habitat Home

Four-year-old Kden had only three words for Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland after she welcomed his mother, Angela J., and her seven children into the Habitat family.

“I love you,” he said.

His response brought into focus the meaning of the family’s April 24, 2026, home dedication: more space, greater stability, and plenty of love.

Angela and her children celebrated the dedication of their new five-bedroom, energy-efficient and affordable COHFH home in Spencer, Oklahoma, alongside Habitat staff and community members.

Angela began fostering children when she was 21. Over the years, she opened her heart and home to more than 60 children. She is now the mother of seven adopted children and hopes to welcome more.

“Yes, I do plan on adopting more kids,” Angela said. “This house will help because there are more rooms, more space available.”

Before purchasing her Habitat home, Angela and her children lived in a smaller house that no longer provided enough room for the family. Their new home also supports Angela’s goal of eventually opening a home daycare.

“It actually helped out my family from where we’re at,” Angela said. “We were in a smaller house, so having a bigger house means I get more kids in the house. I’m trying to open a home daycare, so that’ll actually help, too.”

For Angela, a permanent home means more than shelter. It provides security and a place where her children can feel safe, supported and free to be themselves.

In her New Home Construction program application, Angela wrote that her family’s strength lies in its ability to remain hopeful and to help others.

“Despite challenges, we always find reasons to smile, help others and stay positive,” she said.

Felton Gilliland said Angela’s new home would “provide the space, stability and opportunity her family deserves” while supporting the mother’s continued commitment to children.

After the ceremony, Angela and her seven children gathered for a family photograph. First, they smiled for the camera. Then they did what families do best — they made funny faces together.
