THE VILLAGE — The New Year began with new homeownership opportunities in The Village as Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) dedicated three new, energy-efficient homes made possible through a long-term community partnership focused on thoughtful land use and neighborhood investment.

During a dual home dedication held on New Year’s Eve, Dec. 31, community leaders from Our Lord’s Lutheran Church, Johnson & Associates LLC and The Village City Council welcomed two first-generation Habitat homeowners — Shaylon M. and her four children, and Donna M. — to the neighborhood. The celebration took place at Shaylon’s new home.

The dedication marked the completion of three Habitat homes built on land donated by Our Lord’s Lutheran Church more than three years ago. The church’s contribution enabled Habitat to expand affordable homeownership opportunities in a community where new housing is limited.

Johnson & Associates LLC also played a key role in the project, contributing more than $43,000 in engineering and project services at no cost and funding the construction of a detention pond to support long-term infrastructure needs.

During the celebration, the homeowners received gift sets including handmade quilts donated by church members, $50 ReStore gift certificates and $100 OnCue gift cards. Braxton Banks, vice mayor of The Village and Ward 4 council member, pledged support to the new homeowners if they need assistance in the future. Pastor Steve Evans then blessed the new homes. The homeowners thanked Habitat and community partners for their support.

COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland said the project reflects the power of long-term collaboration and shared community investment.

“The land donation from Our Lord’s Lutheran Church allowed us to build three new, energy-efficient homes in The Village and open the door to homeownership for families who otherwise may not have had that opportunity,” Gilliland said.
