Widowed father Antwon C. and his nearly 5-year-old daughter, Celeste or “Cee Cee,” opened a new life chapter on June 12, 2025, during their Central Oklahoma Habitat for Humanity (COHFH) home-dedication celebration at their new house in Cornerstone Creek in far northwest Oklahoma City.

After receiving a house blessing from St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church Deacon John Teague and housewarming gifts from community members, COHFH Chair/CEO Ann Felton Gilliland welcomed the full-time maintenance supervisor into the “Habitat family” after handing him his keys to the new home.

Antwon then shared his experience buying a home with Habitat and said he enjoyed helping to build houses for future homeowners. (Habitat homeowners volunteer 100 sweat-equity hours as a part of their partnership with COHFH.)
“I don’t know, it is amazing,” Antwon said. “I never thought I’d be here or that something like this would ever happen to me. I’m very happy for me and my daughter and I want to thank everyone for being here.”
After the celebration, Antwon added that buying his Habitat home for cost and without a down payment helped him to afford and transition into homeownership. Becoming a homeowner also marks a new chapter for the young father-and-daughter team as they try to make new memories after the unexpected death of his wife, Madison, in 2023. Antwon said that losing his beloved wife and becoming a single father has been challenging, but he believes they need to continue moving forward. He’s grateful for the opportunity to buy a new home and relocate to Cornerstone Creek.
“We’ve always wanted a home … a safe place to come home to and call our own,” he said. “I have always wanted to have something to pass down to my child and her child and so on – somewhere to make new memories forever.”
Antwon’s new Cornerstone Creek home is the 1,129th house built by COHFH since the Christian-housing ministry first began constructing affordable homes in 1990. The budding neighborhood now has 30 out of 91 homes already built or in different phases of development, with over 25 families having already moved in. Today, neighborhood children can be seen riding their bikes or playing in their yards while their parents mow the lawn, tend to the garden or make other improvements.
Felton Gilliland stated that when complete, Cornerstone Creek will eventually be home to 450 new, safe, secure, and energy-efficient homes, complemented by green spaces transformed into three parks featuring workout stations and a gazebo, all located near Piedmont, Oklahoma’s excellent schools.
“Antwon’s house will be the first of 25 single-family affordable homes constructed using $3.6 million from the Oklahoma Housing Stability Program’s Homebuilder Program,” she said. “The Homebuilder Program’s 0% interest loans have improved our cash flow for construction at Cornerstone Creek. These loans are essential for us to maintain our ambitious building schedule at our new and largest development to date.”
COHFH also plans to have another home dedication at Cornerstone Creek at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 26, 2025, for another Habitat homeowner — the second house built with the Oklahoma Housing Stability Program.
